Joint Committee

The Joint Committee (GK) consists of seven members. It is the central decision-making body of the Jazz Institute Berlin.
The Jazz Institute Berlin is headed by an Artistic Director and a Managing Director. The Artistic Director of the JIB presides over the Joint Committee. The vice president of the Joint Committee is the Managing Director.

Entrance Examination Board

The entrance examination board is in charge of the entrance examination procedure.
The board is elected by the Joint Commission and has an uneven number of members at its disposal.
Only professors and autonomous academic staff, and in exceptional cases part-time autonomous teaching staff, sit on the entrance examination board.
Two advanced students attend the meetings of the entrance examination board and are entitled to participate in the discussions.
A short list of candidates, based on the submitted demo recordings, will be made by the heads of the instrumental subject groups. All invited candidates will be auditioned by the examination board. The instrumental heads participate in the discussion in an advisory capacity only, if they are not members of the entrance examination board.

The examination committee is in charge of organising, carrying out and supervising the examinations and of ensuring adherence to the examination regulations.
The Joint Committee elects the examination committee, which consists of two professors, one member of the academic staff and one student representative.

Work Groups

Various working parties exist for the preparation and execution of specifically defined target areas.
The size of the working parties is not fixed, because it depends on the demand of the task in hand.
There are permanent working groups, e.g. for examination preparation, liaison with recording labels, publishing activities, studio work, event coordination and supervision of the JIB’s internet presentation.
Tempory working parties look after the preparation of special events such as seminars, lectures and workshops, or coordinate projects resulting from current events (e.g. benefit concerts).
